Understanding Autism

1 day course - aimed at workers in the care and education sector who support autistic people - available as in-house training at a venue of your choice throughout the UK

During this course we will explain what autism is and how it affects people differently. We will give an overview of the history of autism, looking at its prevalence and related disorders and conditions, focusing on the four areas of difference and dispelling some common myths. We will consider what the most common autistic traits and characteristics are, giving examples of the lived experience of autistic people.

We will develop an understanding of how to talk and write about autism, including introducing the “social model of disability”.
